A letter from the male employees to HR for a gender-neutral PoSH policy
Dear HR,
We are a group of male employees who are concerned about the lack of gender neutrality in our company’s Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) policy. We strongly believe that our company’s efforts toward promoting a safe and respectful workplace for all employees should be inclusive of men.
While we acknowledge that women are more likely to face sexual harassment at work, we also recognize that men can be victims of sexual harassment. In fact, according to a recent study, up to 1 in 3 victims of workplace sexual harassment are men. However, men often feel ashamed or embarrassed to report incidents of sexual harassment, as it is often perceived as a sign of weakness.
We feel that our company’s POSH policy and awareness programs should reflect the reality of sexual harassment in the workplace, including incidents where men are the victims. This would help to break down the stigma around male victims of sexual harassment and encourage more men to come forward and report incidents of sexual harassment.
We urge you to make our company’s POSH policy gender-neutral so that it includes men as potential victims of sexual harassment. This will help to ensure that all employees, regardless of gender, are aware of their rights and responsibilities under the policy. Furthermore, we ask that the company’s awareness programs on sexual harassment include examples of men who have experienced sexual harassment at work. This will help to raise awareness among employees about the reality of sexual harassment for all genders and make it clear that sexual harassment is never acceptable, regardless of who the victim is.
We understand that changing the company’s POSH policy and awareness programs may require additional resources and effort. However, we believe that the benefits of creating a more inclusive and safe workplace for all employees are worth the investment. By making our POSH policy gender-neutral and raising awareness of sexual harassment against men, we can help to create a workplace culture where all employees feel safe and respected.
By making our POSH policy gender-neutral and including examples of men who have experienced sexual harassment, we can help to create a workplace culture where all employees feel empowered to report incidents of sexual harassment and seek the support they need to address the issue.
We hope that you will take our concerns seriously and take action to create a more inclusive and safe workplace for all employees. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely, Male Employees of [Company Name]
We understand that not every organization has introduced a gender-neutral POSH policy. Therefore, we have created this draft for anyone who wishes to copy and paste it and send it to their HR. There is no copyright on this article, and it is available for everyone’s use.
